  1. Soon to be our Book Club' novelist via her book Bronte's Mistress, looking forward to, perhaps, meet her personally, to celebrate, albeit in a different century, her Victorian 'heritage' by choice.

  3. Yes! Mary Elizabeth Braddon was an important feminist. Lady Audley's Secret explores feminism, gender and same sex relationships. A very important text, but greatly ignored (by academia) text.

  5. I found your blog researching into Charles Reade's "A Terrible Temptation". It was very useful, thanks. By way of reciprocity I'd like to recommend F. Anstey's "The Statement Of Stella Maberley" (1896) and Florence Layard's "A Witness For The Dead" (1889). The former is a fascinating study in unreliable narration, the latter a stylish post Jack-The-Ripper supernatural thriller. Obscure but literate works.
